Mr. Wright's main text

NOTES

1. I call the so-called neoconservatives neo-Trots because:

a) Their ideological origins are in fact rooted in Trotskyism, not in any variety of "conservatism" at all.

b) Their approach to politics is pure Trotskyism. They want power, and they're willing to use any tactic they can get away with to get it. They want to impose perpetual revolution on the world, in the form of constant imperial interventions. And they believe the entire world should be subjected to their ideal, utopian system of "democracy," administered, of course, by them and their allies.

c) That towering intellect, Rush Limbaugh, is now saying that the term "neoconservatives" is "a pejorative code word for "'Jews,'" and so is proof of anti-Semitism. I certainly don't want to be found guilty of such a shameful thing in the eyes of right-thinking people.

2. As far as French cars go, if you wanted to do something really nasty to an enemy, you could do a lot worse than make him a gift of a Peugeot. And there's an expensive luxury Citroen SM that broke down 20 years ago and since then hasn't moved an inch from its parking place in high-class Georgetown — perhaps because not even junkyards will take the pox-ridden thing.

3. For the record, as a Catholic, I don't approve of homosexual sex, bigamy, polygamy, incest, or adultery. But with the qualified exception of incest, I also don't approve of legal prohibitions on private behavior. Is Mr. Santorum next going to demand that sexual activity between married couples be monitored to ensure that things are done to his satisfaction? And is lack of satisfaction part of his problem? I find it especially amusing that a senator could come out publicly with this bilge, considering the debauched private behavior of many of his colleagues.

4. I just love the way "progressives" use the word "gender" instead of "sex." I was taught that people belong to one sex or the other. The word "gender" is supposed to be refer to language usage applied to objects. In Latin and the Romance languages, objects such as chairs, steamships, locomotives, political entities, ballpoint pens, rutabagas, and so forth have feminine or masculine (or neuter) genders, which affect the genders of pronouns referring to them, verb conjugation, etc. The reason "progressives" like to use "gender" instead of "sex" is that a person's sex is pretty well established by one's DNA, and there are only two of them. Progressives find that fact of nature far too restrictive, believing that one should be able to choose one's "gender," and the more of them to choose between, the better.

5. Here's the link to the story, but access requires a subscription. A free 4-week trial sub is available.

Unless I really am going insane, there was also a front page article on this subject in the April 28 home-delivery edition of the Washington Times. However, it is not in the final editions available in the libraries, and is not available on the Times's website. Unfortunately, my wife threw out my copy, and I have not been able to find a replacement. This appears to be another example of a story that has been "rectified" to the point of nonexistence. Apparently, the editors who originally ran it did not realize how embarrassing to certain powerful interests it would be if it got around that those interests are the force behind such "ideological diversity" legislation.

7. One of the reasons the neo-Trots became "conservatives" was that they were repulsed in their attempts in the 1970s to take over the Democratic party: the New Left was smarter, better-organized, more numerous, and more ruthless than they.
